1. License Fee
Magento has both FREE and Paid versions. The license fee of paid version of Magento i.e. Magento Professional edition is $2995 per year.
On the other hand free version of X Cart is not available. There are 2 paid versions- X-Cart Gold and X-cart Pro. The license of X-Cart Gold is $149 and X-cart Pro is $431.

2. Trial period
Magento offers unlimited trial period as compared to 30 Days trial by X-Cart.

3. One Page Checkout
Magento offers inbuilt feature of One Page Checkout. This feature is available in X-Cart also; however you have to pay Extra Cost for enjoying One Page Checkout feature.

4. Multi-Store Support
The specialty of Magento is its Multi Store feature which is inbuilt. For enjoying the Multi Store feature in X- Cart you will have to incur extra cost.

5. Payment Gateways
In Magento supports 87 Payment Gateways. On the other hand, X-cart supports 14 Payment Gateways.

6. Shipping Carriers
Shipping carriers in Magento include- UPS, UPS XML (account rates), FedEx (account rates), USPS and DHL.
X-Cart offers Intershipper, DHL, United States Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, and Canada Post as shipping carriers.

Advantages

X-Cart is commercially supported. It has very few bugs.
X-Cart makes use of Smarty Templates which many programmers want to work with.

Disadvantages

There is licensing fees for X-Cart. It provides trial of 30 days only. X-cart has two versions- X-Cart Gold and X-cart Pro.
